The Great Canadian Best Burger Contest

Send us an original recipe along with a colour photo of your best burger – it could be your best selling, your personal favourite or your most beautiful … and you could win a weekend for two in Banff, Alberta – including airfare to Calgary, two nights at the magnificent Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and $500 (Cdn) spending money.

Entries must be received by November 15th. The winner will be announced in the January issue of Beef Up Your Business.

CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Great Canadian Best Burger Contest official “Contest Rules” (the "Contest Rules"):

The Great Canadian Best Burger Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Beef Information Centre (the “Sponsor”) and runs across Canada (excluding Quebec) starting at 12:00 AM EST., September 1, until 11:59 PM EST. November 15, 2025 (the “Contest Duration”).

1. Eligibility
The Great Canadian Best Burger Contest is open to legal residents of Canada (excluding the province of Quebec), who have reached the age of majority in their province of residence and are foodservice professionals, cooks, employees or owners of foodservice businesses in Canada and users of Canadian beef within the foodservice operation noted above. All employees of Beef Information Centre and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, related and affiliated associations and companies, their employees, sales representatives and agents, advertising and promotional agencies, the independent judging organization, suppliers of prizes, materials and services related to this Contest and members of their immediate family (brother, sister, children, father, mother), their legal or common-law spouses and persons with whom these employees, representatives and agents reside are not permitted to participate in this Contest. Participants or their employers of this contest must be Canadian beef users.

2. How to Enter
There are two ways to enter: 1. Email your name, name of employer-establishment, name of Canadian Beef Supplier, complete home address, home and work phone numbers, and email address. Along with this information you must include your original burger recipe utilizing Canadian beef and a colour photo of your recipe. Email this information to [email protected] and please write Best Burger Contest in the subject line of the email. 2. Mail: print your full name, name of employer-establishment, name of Canadian Beef Supplier, complete home address, home and work phone numbers, and email address (if applicable). Along with this information you must include your original burger recipe utilizing Canadian beef and a colour photo of your recipe and mail it to: Best Burger Contest, Beef Information Centre 140 West 15th St. Suite 100, North Vancouver BC V7M 1R6. No purchase is necessary.

Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, late, damaged, incomplete, stolen, illegible, misdirected or returned entries. Participants can enter as often as they wish but can only submit one recipe and colour photo per entry. In the case of mail entries, each entry must be mailed separately bearing sufficient postage. Each entrant is obliged to submit an original recipe of which he/she is the author. Any plagiarism or fraud will result in the disqualification of the entry and the Sponsor reserves the right to ban and/or disqualify the contestant from entering future contests sponsored by the Sponsor. Each recipe and corresponding colour photo may only be submitted once, repeat submissions will be disqualified. To be eligible, entries must be submitted electronically, or if mailed, received by the Beef Information Centre by 11:59 p.m. November 15, 2003, EST., the Contest closing date. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with the Contest Winner who will be notified by mail or by telephone. Contest entrants, by entering the Contest, consent to the use, including the publishing of their name, city of residence, recipe and submitted photo, by the Sponsors in any future publicity, in any and all media, without compensation throughout the world in perpetuity. All entries received become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Entry forms are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, mutilated, forged, falsified, modified or tampered with. The Beef Information Centre reserves the right to use the recipes submitted by the entrants in connection with the Contest and agrees to publish the name of the author along with the recipe.

3. Prize
One prize will be awarded. The prize consists of a weekend for 2 in Banff AB including return economy airfare to Calgary from any Canadian city serviced by Westjet Airlines Ltd., airport fees, return transfer to Banff from Calgary, 2 nights accommodation in Banff plus $500 (Cdn) spending money (the "Prize"). All expenses not stated are the sole responsibility of the Contest winner, including without limiting the foregoing, any hotel service charges, transportation between the Contest winner’s home and the airport, meals and gratuities. The prize has an approximate real value of $2000.00 (Cdn), actual value may vary depending on point of departure).

The selected entrant will be notified by telephone by an employee of the Sponsor within fifteen (15) days following when the winner is declared. In order to be declared the winner of the Contest, the selected entrant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question without the assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise. Should the selected entrant not be reached during this fifteen (15) day period for any reason, including, but not limited to, the fact that the selected entrant did not provide a functioning phone number, or if within fifteen (15) days after being reached, the selected entrant is unable to answer the skill-testing question or does not meet all of the Contest conditions as set out herein, the Prize shall be automatically forfeited by that selected entrant. In such an event, another winner will be selected from among all remaining eligible entries received during the Contest Duration. An employee of the Sponsor shall attempt to contact the new selected entrant within fifteen (15) days of such selection and such selection will be otherwise subject to the same conditions as set out in this paragraph. No contact will be made or other correspondence sent to any Contest entrants regarding who is the winner of the Contest other than to the selected entrant.

4. Contest Judging
To win, selected entrants must have complied with the “Contest Rules”. On November 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM (EST) in the Calgary, Alberta office an independent judging organization will supervise a panel of beef and food services experts who will choose the winning entry from all eligible entries received during the Contest Duration based on the following criteria: (1) merit – (10%), (2) taste – (25%), (3) presentation – (25%) and (4) customer appeal – (40%). All decisions of the panel are final. Odds of winning the Prize depend on the number of eligible entries received by the Contest closing date and by the judges' decision. The winning entry will be featured in the January 2004 edition of "Beef Up Your Business", the quarterly foodservice newsletter of the Beef Information Centre.

5. General Conditions
In order to win, the selected entrant must comply with the following:

To win, selected entrants must have complied with the “Contest Rules”.

The “Contest winner” and his or her guest must each sign a Declaration of Compliance and Liability Release by confirming compliance with the “Contest Rules” and releasing the “Contest Sponsors” and their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, shareholders, employees, agents representatives and their respective advertising and promotional agencies from any and all liability with respect to this Contest, including, without limitation, the selection of the “Contest winner”, the administration of the Contest, and acceptance or use of any or all of the Prize as awarded. The Contest winner will return such documents signed by the “Contest winner” and his or her guest within fifteen days (15) of the notification, unless another date is specified by the Sponsor.

Failure on the part of the entrant to comply with any of the above mentioned conditions will result in his/her disqualification and loss of prize entitlement in which case another winner will be selected from among all remaining eligible entries received during the Contest Duration.

6. Terms and Conditions
All entries are subject to verification by the Sponsor. Entries are subject to verification by the Contest organizers. Each entry that is not in compliance with these “Contest Rules” will automatically be discarded and will not be entitled to a prize.

By entering the Contest, each entrant accepts these Contest Rules, which are subject to change without notice to Contest entrants individually and which changes shall be posted only at www.beefinfo.org. By entering the Contest, each entrant automatically releases the Sponsor and any other person or entity associated in any way with the Contest, and their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives and their respective advertising and promotional agencies, from any and all liability arising in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, the selection of the Contest winner, the administration of the Contest and the acceptance or use of any or all of the Prize as awarded.

The Sponsor will not assume responsibility of any nature whatsoever in all cases where their inability to hold the Contest results from a fortuitous event or irresistible force, or from a strike, a lock-out or any other labour conflict in their establishments or in the establishments of any organizations or enterprises whose services are used for the administration of the Contest.

Prize must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred to another person. Airline tickets will be mailed by the Sponsor to the Contest winner. In the event that, for circumstances beyond their control and unrelated to the Contest winner, the Sponsor cannot award the specific prize as described herein, a prize equivalent in nature and value will be awarded by the Sponsor. The Sponsor also reserves the right to substitute the prize for a cash amount equivalent to the value of the prize.

All travel awarded in this Contest must be completed within one (1) year of notification of winning the Prize or the Prize is forfeited.

All tickets issued in conjunction with the Prize are not eligible for frequent flyer miles.

Prizes cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer and may not be separated.

Travel arrangements and reservations regarding the flight must be made according to instructions given to the Contest winner. Reservations are subject to availability and blackout periods will apply, as per instructions given to Contest winner. Once reservations are made they cannot be changed.

The Contest winner and his or her guest must obtain their own valid travel documents (such as passports) and are responsible for obtaining their own insurance, such as health, medical, trip cancellation and other insurance.

The selected participant agrees that by accepting the prize, the services subsequently provided in connection to that prize become the sole responsibility of the supplier.

The Sponsor holds no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, failures or absence of network connections or any failed, incomplete, garbled, erased, or faulty transmission by a computer or network or other online communications problems occurring in connection with participation in the Contest. The Sponsor holds no responsibility for any damage or loss resulting, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from downloading any software and transmitting any information in connection with this Contest.

The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to withdraw, terminate, suspend or modify all or any part of this Contest, if for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including technical failure or corruption, computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or any other cause beyond the control of Sponsor which in the opinion of the Sponsor affects the administration, security, fairness integrity or proper conduct of the Contest. If the Contest is withdrawn, terminated, suspended or modified, notice of this will be posted on the Sponsor's website at www.beefinfo.org.

Whatever the mode of communication chosen to enter the Contest, the entrant is the person whose name appears on the entry form as described and the Prize will be awarded to that person if he/she is the declared the Contest winner.

This Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, municipal laws and regulations.

The Contest and the terms and conditions contained in these Contest Rules shall be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any dispute arising hereunder shall be adjudicated solely in the applicable court in Toronto, Ontario.

The Contest is void in Quebec.

The Sponsor respects your right to privacy and will use your personal information to conduct this Contest only in accordance with applicable law.
